Step 1:
-
This screen will list the databases (indexes) that are available to you through FirstSearch.
-
It is very important that you choose the correct index for the correct subject material. For example, if you want to find information on art, then you would choose "ArtAbstracts" because "ArtAbstracts" covers "leading publications in the world of arts."
-
If you want to see more of a description for each database, then click on the "i" icon that is on the same line as the name of the index that interests you.

Step 2:
-
For this example, we will try to find information about human cloning. There are several indexes that will provide information on this subject, but for this example, we will use "WilsonSelectPlus." "WilsonSelectPlus" is an index that seems to cover a little bit of everything, and this database will provide the entire text of magazine and journal articles.
-
Use the mouse, or the down arrow on the keyboard, to scroll down the screen in order to click on the highlighted link "WilsonSelectPlus."

Step 4:
-
We will need to tell the computer which keywords that we want to find somewhere in the article. For this example, we are going to ask the computer to find articles with the word human and the word cloning somewhere within the article. To do this, we need to type the keywords of human cloning in the "Search for" box.

Step 5:

-
The computer will give us a list of citations(records) within "WilsonSelectPlus" that will have something to do with human cloning. By scrolling down through the list, we will take a look at the citation that has the title "Broadening the debate on cloning and stem cell research." The author is Paul Lauritzen. The article can be found in the magazine "America" volume 186, number 3 (Feb 4, 2000) on pages 22-23.

-
If you click on the title of the article, you will be presented with the citation, and usually, an abstract (summary) of the article.
-
However, anyplace that you see "View Full Text in HTML format" you will be able to click on the highlighted "View Full Text in HTML format" link and be able to view the entire text of the article. PLEASE NOTE that in many instances, the online version of the article is not exactly the same as the article in the paper version. Many times the text is slightly different and graphs, charts, and photographs will not appear in the electronic version of the article.

Step 7: PRINTING SPECIFIC PAGES
- After clicking "Print", you will be presented with another screen.
-
If you want to print part of the article, you will need to click inside the white circle next to "Pages" to make a black dot appear within the circle. Next, you will have to click inside the box that has the number one and change that to the page number that you want to start printing. If you want to print pages 1 through 5, then type within the white box next to "Pages", 1-5.
- If you click on the "Print" button, the printer will print the specific pages that you asked the printer to print.
