Know Your Rights!

If all you know about the courts and criminal justice system is what you’ve seen on Law and Order, CSI, NCIS and Judge Judy, this is your chance to take a closer look at the real thing. This class, which is taught by Judge M.T. Thompson, Jr., 70th District Court Saginaw, Michigan is designed for those individuals who want a general overview of how Michigan’s courts and criminal justice systems work.

  • examine the court system, including what each court does, the type of cases it handles and the role it plays in criminal prosecution
  • examine the different stages of a criminal prosecution and what happens at each stage as a case moves through the court system
  • explain the Bill of Rights and the rights, privileges and protections it provides for every citizen who is suspected or accused of committing a crime

This class will take you inside the heart of the criminal justice system. You will examine what happens at each step of a criminal case from arrest to adjudication.
