Human Resources Certificate Series

The Human Resources Certificate Series will provide you with a broad overview of the Human Resources function in business. The first courses guide students through the benefits administration role and the HR regulatory environment, which is the platform for the HR skill-set. Next, courses focus on the ‘employee-cycle,’ from recruiting, interviewing and onboarding through management and evaluation techniques that improve retention and ensure a safe working environment through termination, layoff or resignation. The series wraps up with courses that focus on the integration of HR throughout the enterprise, including risk management and strategic planning.

Instructor Spotlight

Brent Chartier, MSA, is employed as an adjunct faculty member both at Delta College and at Macomb Community College in Clinton Township, MI. He began his career in 1985, working in the alcohol/drug abuse and mental health treatment field. When he learned of the impact of employee behavioral problems on business, he began work in the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) field, serving as editor of a trade publication for EAP professionals and speaking across the country on ways in which employers could ensure productive, drug-free environments. His work led him to be an invited speaker to the International Academy of Management and to the role of Program Coordinator of the State of Michigan Health Professional Recovery Program, the program to assist impaired healthcare professionals reach full-functioning recovery. His HR experience spans from directorship of an HR department for a Tier 1 auto supplier and an EAP serving 85 client companies. He earned a bachelor’s in English from the University of Michigan-Flint and a master of science in administration, HR concentration, from Central Michigan University. A resident of Chesterfield, MI, Brent is a published fiction author and edits doctoral student dissertations on the side. He’s been with Delta College since 2010.
