Reappointment of
Learning Communities Program Coordinator
Approved by Learning Communities Advisory Board and Dean of Teaching and Learning April 2011
Posting of Position and Early Steps
- As soon as an upcoming vacancy is known to the Dean of Teaching and Learning (DTL), the Learning Communities Advisory Board (LCAB) will be notified and a date set for posting the position. Every effort should be made to select the new Learning Communities Program Coordinator quickly to allow training time.
- The position will be advertised as a faculty release time position, for a three-year term, with an additional three-year term possible.
- Candidates will be asked to submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation, which should reflect the candidates’ interest in and experience with learning community pedagogy and issues.
- A member of the LCAB will be elected by the LCAB to chair the screening process. The chair will coordinate the process with the DTL, Human Resources, and LCAB.
Screening Process and Recommendation
The screening committee will include all members of the LCAB.
- The screening committee will review all applications and decide by majority vote which candidates to interview.
- The screening committee will interview selected candidates, following established College procedures.
- A majority vote of the screening committee will recommend a candidate to be hired as Learning Communities Program Coordinator.
- The committee chair will write a rationale of the LCAB’s recommendation and forward that to the DTL.
- If the DTL disagrees with the LCAB recommendation, or the selected candidate withdraws, then the DTL will meet with the LCAB to determine a new process.
Appraisal and Renewal Procedures
- The DTL and Learning Communities Program Coordinator will establish goals beginning of the Academic year. The Coordinator will submit a year-end report to the DTL discussing goal attainment and other accomplishments.
- The DTL will conduct an annual evaluation of the Coordinator. If the supervisor determines that the Coordinator is not adequately fulfilling the duties of the position, a recommendation to replace the Coordinator will be made to the LCAB.
- At any time during the tenure of the Coordinator, the LCAB may take a vote to express concern that the Coordinator’s responsibilities are not being adequately fulfilled. That majority vote will be communicated to the DTL for review and possible action.
- At the end of the second year of the first term, the Coordinator will notify the DTL and LCAB of interest in serving a second three-year term. With the approval of the supervisor and majority vote of LCAB, the Coordinator may serve a second three-year term.
