Income Tax Assistance - All International students who live or work in the U.S.A. are required to file a federal income tax form with the United States government. Even if you had no U.S. source of income, you still must file Form 8843 and if you worked, Form 1040NR or Form 1040NR-EZ may also be necessary. The link provides helpful websites for International students to determine which forms are required and free income tax assistance provided by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Please be aware that each student is ultimately responsible for the accuracy of his/her income tax returns and any resulting penalties or interest.
Reinstatement to F-1 Status - If you do not follow the Immigration laws regarding F-1 students you will be reported to the USCIS as being out of status. You will need to file Form I-539 with the USCIS if you plan to continue your studies in the U.S. The link above includes instructions on completing the I-539 Form to apply for reinstatement.
