Sack the Bag

Sack the Bag! Join the Eco Reps for a chance to win a reusable bag filled with green goods. Say no to single use plastic bags.

In the US alone, nearly 100 billion plastic bags are consumed each year, 99 percent of which are never recycled. Discarded bags find their way into waterways via drains and sewage pipes and account for over 10 percent of the debris washed up on the US coastlines. Over time they break down into smaller, more toxic petro-polymers which eventually contaminate our soil and water. Microscopic particles can enter our food chain.

Do something drastic and cut the plastic! Reusable bags are convenient eco-friendly alternatives. Using a cloth bag can save six single-use plastic bags each week. That’s more than 22,000 bags in a lifetime!

Did you know? Over the past three years, the college Bookstore has reduced plastic bag consumption nearly 33 percent. Student support has created over $3,500 in savings which has been donated to support local non-profit environmental organizations in the Great Lakes Bay Area Region.
