Are you registered to vote? The DeltaVotes! campaign seeks to break down voter registration barriers with a voter registration blitz on the main campus of Delta College on September 25 through 27. The registration table will be set up from 10am to 7pm. The location for Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the Commons, with Thursday being in the main hallway near E-wing.

"We want to magnify student voices this election so that government becomes more responsive to our interests," said Justin Machelski, president of The Democracy Commitment club, which is organizing the registration drive.

The three-day blitz will involve teams of students competing to recruit the most individuals to register to vote. The team that gets the most students to stop by the registration table from 10am to 7pm will win a pizza party. Any club, sports team, class or other group is invited to participate.

"In the 2008 election, 87 percent of college students who were registered to vote actually showed up on Election Day, according to CIRCLE research," said political science faculty Lisa Lawrason. "That’s compared to 51 percent of 18-29 year-olds nationwide."

For instructions on how to participate and to receive a registration kit, groups should contact Lisa Lawrason at 989-686-9509 or lisalawrason@delta.edu.

Individual students are also invited to be a part of the fun. Any student who gets 10 individuals to register will win a free DeltaVotes! t-shirt. Individual participants may stop by the registration table for instructions on how to participate.
