By completing this certificate, you will show future employers and educational institutions that you have a commitment to and competency with writing that goes beyond the required College Composition courses. While pursuing the certificate, you will have the opportunity to work in many different genres and forms of writing, including journalism, technical writing, business writing, and creative writing. In addition, should you choose, you will have hands-on opportunities to learn technologies that support writing's endeavor to communicate. There are two tracks:
General Certificate Track. We have designed a program that allows students to choose a course of study that reflects their own unique interests in writing.
Upon completion of this certificate, students will be able to:
- demonstrate the abililty to read effectively and understand publish works in chosen genres.
- identify elements of chosen genres.
- write competently in their chose genres and develop an understanding of the importance of style.
- effectively respond to and offer critique of their own writing and the writing of peers.
Technical Writing Track. We have developed a program that meets both student interests and employer needs - by emphasizing the skills that true professionals find rewarding.
Upon completion of this certificate, students will be able to:
- produce professional correspondence and documents.
- demonstrate professional presentation skills.
- write a researched professional report.
