Denise Hill,
Associate Professor
Courses Taught
How To Reach Ms. Hill:
|
|
Denise Hill is a native Michigander who has traveled north, south, east, and west, and chooses Michigan as her home. She has worked in community college teaching since 1992, when she first taught English in a men's maximum security prison in Ionia. She has held a variety of jobs, including working in a women's domestic violence shelter, teaching English to non-native speakers, working for an advertising agency, advocating for high school drop-outs in a GED-to-college program, and academic advising. Denise is one of two coordinators of the Delta College Safe Space Program. She helps train faculty and staff to become advocates for LGBTQ students, providing support, resources, and referrals. She is also an active member of the LBGT Committee which organizes events for LBGT Awareness Month on campus. In addition to her teaching, Denise is the editor-in-chief for NewPages, an online publication of literary magazine and small press book reviews, where her literary news blog has a following of over 600 regular daily readers. When she is not involved in reading or writing (which is rare), Denise enjoys walking with her two registered therapy dogs (TDI), biking the rail trails in Bay City, and learning new ways to recycle trash into useful objects.
