Teaching/Learning Center (T/LC)
Welcome to the Teaching/Learning Center at Delta College! We provide services to students and to faculty both inside and outside of the classroom.
This website is an extension of those services that includes links to many sites and activities to support student success.
The Teaching/Learning Center is Delta’s tutoring center. We provide walk-in tutorial service in the center, located in the Library Learning Information Center (A-100), and classroom support through programs such as Structured Learning Assistance, Facilitated Study Groups, and PLATO.
Walk-in tutoring covers most general education classes in math, science, English, humanities, and social science. The professional staff and student tutors often work with students in developmental classes. We encourage faculty to bring classes for tours, refer students for help, and to invite T/LC staff to classes for learning strategies presentations.
Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) is an instructional academic support model designed to promote graduation and retention by increasing pass rates in developmental courses. The SLA program currently covers ENG090, MTH092, and sections of MTH096 taught in conjunction with MTH092.
SLA Facilitators conduct out-of-class workshops which are available to all students in the class, but required for students who fall below a C+ average. Time for the workshops is listed along with class time in the schedule book. Students know these expectations before choosing to enroll in a SLA course.
The Facilitated Study Group program places student facilitators in study sessions to assist currently enrolled students with study skills and learning strategies. The facilitators have been successful in the same class in a previous semester. Facilitators do not attend the class again but may meet with the instructor and they hold review sessions outside of class.
PLATO Web Learning Network is an Internet-based instructional program with hours of lessons in developmental math, reading, and writing skills. Audio is available in many of the modules. Material can be customized for classes and individual students to provide assessment, instruction, and skills practice.
The T/LC works with Assessment, Counseling, Academic Advising, the Bridge Program, and individual faculty to provide academic support for Delta’s developmental students.
