Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence

Welcome to the Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence (FCTE), located in J-110. The FCTE’s function at Delta is to provide excellent professional development opportunities to all full-time and adjunct faculty in order to better serve the learning needs of our students. We have a particular desire to support faculty teaching developmental and underprepared students. The FCTE is an integral part of the Center for Organizational Success (COS), which supports the professional development of all employees of Delta.
Please stop in at the FCTE! You’ll find a hospitable environment, a place to sit and read or interact with other colleagues, and a bottomless coffee pot. We welcome your suggestions for needed workshops, valuable resources to acquire, and improvements in delivery of professional development opportunities! Our FCTE and Center for Organizational Success (COS), offer the following to developmental educators:
- A professional library, including resources for developmental instructors.
- Faculty Learning Circles. Something new! These monthly gatherings of faculty encourage sharing of ideas about specific teaching issues. We welcome the opportunity to kick off a developmental educators circle. Request it!
- A Technology Idea Center. Faculty may drop in to use a variety of resources to enhance their teaching. Our latest is Inspiration Mind-Mapping Software. This software is very easy to use, and will enable you to create a variety of visual diagrams that organize information for more visual learners. In addition, Inspiration can instantly reorganize concept maps into linear outlines.
- Technology Support Team and Employee Computer Training Center. The FCTE and COS includes this team trained to assist you with course enhancements related to smart room applications, online and hybrid course delivery. Your concerns about developmental student needs can be tailored through one-on-one or small group sessions with these colleagues.
- ED 300 courses for faculty. These courses provide academic credit while offering professional development in a range of specialty areas. Most provide opportunities for developing personalized projects, which can be tailored to needs of developmental educators. We expect a course targeted to developmental educators in the academic year 2007-08!
- Adjunct Faculty Academies, Fall and Winter: Professional workshops to enhance your expertise. Modest stipends are provided for participation of adjunct faculty members.
- On-going Professional Development Workshops, Seminars, Video and Audio-Conferences: Check our calendar of events, available at our website and provided to instructors in paper format each semester. Many are applicable to concerns of developmental instructors.
- Adjunct Faculty Grant Program: Adjunct Faculty may apply for up to $250.00 per academic year to support their professional growth through course work, conference participation, purchase of professional development materials, and membership in professional organizations. Application is available at the FCTE or our website.
- Online resources: The FCTE maintains a resources for educators link on its website. It also announces upcoming professional conferences of interest.
