Developmental Education

As Director of the Developmental Education Program at Delta College, I sincerely welcome you to our website, Resources for Developmental Educators (RDE). This website, designed for adjunct and full-time faculty and staff, includes a "Faculty Corner” with best-practice assignments/projects, important statistics, suggested reading lists, announcements of upcoming events, and links to information and sites you may find useful when planning and developing classes, working with students, and locating resources. It also provides customized links to the Bridge Program, T/LC, Disability Services, FCTE, Counseling, and others.
Developmental Education at Delta is a coordinated program, with a Developmental Ed Director, Bridge Director, and three faculty/staff coordinators representing English, Math, and the T/LC. We are located in the Library Learning Information Center (LLIC), A-118. (See DECOOR chart.) Delta’s Developmental Ed Team (DECOOR) has created the following programs to assist developmental students and faculty/staff.
- MyAlert/Early Alert, available online, to make early referrals for at-risk students and to collect/analyze risk-factor data affecting student retention and success. (See MyAlert Flowchart)
- Integrated Studies Learning Communities (ISLC’s) 12 credit counseling-enhanced learning communities centered on students’ career interests and student success strategies, address the needs of first-semester developmental students. Fall 2012 offers 4 ISLC's, including one at Ricker Center.
- Campus Services Orientation Video: A Tour to Help Students Succeed available for instructors to present/discuss in class. (Video may be viewed on this site (see link on right) or you can contact our office in A-118 for your own copy.) Campus maps also available in DE Office.
- Developmental Education at Delta College: A Coordinated Program- informational brochure available here (Informational Brochure). Please contact us for multiple copies.

- “Moving up” Innovations grant project identifies high school seniors who tested close to COMPASS cut-off scores, places them in free workshops, and provides targeted help in areas where they are weak in ENG or MTH. At completion of workshop, students are retested to see if they can move up.
- An internet-delivered course, ED 396: Facilitating Developmental Learning, offered for faculty/staff to foster comprehensive professional development for educators supporting and teaching developmental students.
