What is the ACT?
The ACT is America’s most widely accepted college entrance exam. It assesses high school students’ general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work.
• The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science.
• The Writing Test, which is optional, measures skill in planning and writing a short essay.
Prerequisites
Because this course is self-paced, it requires a high degree of self-discipline. You must commit to accessing the course for 4-6 hours PER WEEK and to keeping in touch with the instructor. You will also need an e-mail account, available through the college if necessary, for communication between you and the instructor.
You must be comfortable with computer skills such as using a mouse and keyboard, using e-mail, and using the Internet.
Steps to Register
Step 1. Complete the Delta Admissions Application in the Admissions Department in D101. Admission to Delta is $20.00.
Step 2. Pay admissions fee and course cost at the Cashier’s Office.
Step 3. Register for the course at the Records & Registration Department in B101. Cost of the course is $75.00.
Step 4. Take receipt of payments to the Teaching Learning Center (TLC), located in the LLIC – for
PLATO account.

PLATO® will not operate on a telephone (dial-up) connection and is not compatible with Windows Vista.
What will I learn in this course?
This course uses PLATO® Web Learning Network, an Internet-based computer instruction system of lessons on the material covered in all five ACT Tests. You will receive instruction and be able to test your skills as you progress. Completion of this course should give you a thorough background for the questions on the ACT tests.
The course is self-directed and self-paced. The course is Open Entry/Open Exit. You may enroll at any time and complete the material at your own pace. The course is accessible over the Internet, so you may access it any time, anywhere.
Most courses begin with an assessment. After you complete the assessment, you will be exempt from modules you have mastered. You then spend your time working on the modules you have not mastered. PLATO® modules have three parts: Tutorial, Application or Drill(s), and Mastery Test(s).
1. A Tutorial has information, demonstrations, and sample questions and problems.
2. Application/Drill provides practice problems.
3. ALL Mastery Tests must be passed to master a module.
You may access PLATO® from any location which has a broadband or cable Internet connection: home, workplace, or Delta College computer labs. PLATO will not operate correctly on a phone (dial-up) connection.
