Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence History
The Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence (FCTE) was established in 1990 as the focal point of professional development activities and information for Delta College educators. The seed for theFCTE was plant January 27, 2006 a great deal of work being done on various aspects of teaching excellence with no apparent coordination of efforts. A group of dedicated faculty, led by Santiago Peregrino and Jack Crowell, worked diligently over the Winter of 1990, researching faculty centers at other institutions and developing a proposal which would meet the teaching and learning faculty development needs at Delta College. Proposals for the establishment of the FCTE to promote and coordinate these efforts were met with enthusiasm but also with concern that the College did not have the financial resources to support such a center. While the FCTE was being considered at the grass roots, the Strategic Planning Committee came into existence. This committee drafted a strategic plan for the College and cited the promotion of teaching excellence as the school's number one priority. This action proved critical and led to budgetery approval for the establishment of the FCTE, in 1990.
The Delta College FCTE was born! Its original goals are still at the center of its activities, but it has also grown a great deal with ever-increasing professional development needs.
