Emergency Vehicle Operation & Traffic Stops
As Law Enforcement Officers, we are all aware of the dangers of everyday police work. It is a fact that the highest number of Officer fatalities is in some way connected to our patrol vehicles. This course will present a two fold approach to the officer. The first presentation produced by SkidCar Inc. pertaining to vehicle dynamics as well as behind the wheel range time. The second portion is a presentation which is presented by "S.T.O.P.S." which stands for Strategies & Tactics of Patrol Stops.
STOPS is a program used throughout Ohio and Indiana and was developed by the late Sgt. Bob Magnuson. In this program, Magnuson has compiled some very enlightening facts about Officer Assaults. During this course, the two Supreme Court cases of Pennsylvania vs. Mimms (1977) and Maryland vs. Wilson (1997) will be discussed and compared to the Officers own department policies. Both of these cases deal with the legal right of the Officer to remove occupants from the vehicle prior to approaching the vehicle while occupied.
This course is an eight hour course which will start with a brief classroom presentation followed by range time with the Officer's conducting behind the wheel exercises and scenario based training using air soft weapons.
