Delta College Police Academy

The information and forms necessary for your acceptance to the 86th Delta College Basic Police Training Academy may be found below.  To better assist you through this process, a timeline has been provided.  It is imperative that you complete all the requirements by December 14, 2009 as this training session will only be offered if a minimum number of completed applications have been accepted by this date.  If the minimum number is not attained by this date, Delta College reserves the right to cancel this training session.  If this does occur, your $250.00 non-refundable application fee will be refunded.

The first deadline has passed; however, we are still accepting applications.

If you are interested in the January 2010 session, please start the process as soon as possible as the final date to submit a completed application is December 14, 2009.

 

Step 1    Delta College Student Status    (Due by October 31, 2009)

  • If you are not a current Delta College Student, you must complete the Delta College Application for Admission and participate in orientation/assessment.  (If you are attending the Delta College Police Academy as a Saginaw Valley State University Student, you need to complete this application and submit the completed application with a copy of your receipt of payment of the Delta College Application for Admission fee to the Delta College Police Academy.)
  • If you have been a Delta College Student and it has been 2 years or more since you have taken a class at Delta College, you must complete the Delta College Application for Admission and participate in orientation/assessment.
  • If you are a Mid-Michigan or Alpena Community College Student, you must complete a Delta College Guest Application.

 

Step 2    Beginning the Delta College Police Academy Application Process    (Due by October 31, 2009)

**The following items must be submitted to the Delta College Police Academy, University Center MI 48710.**

  • Complete and submit the Application Information form.
  • Complete and submit the Authorization for Release of Information form.  [NOTE:  Please indicate for Highest Degree, the highest degree you currently hold (ex. High School Diploma, GED, Associate, Bachelor, etc.)]
  • Submit a copy of your Drivers License.
  • Submit a copy of your Social Security Card.
  • Submit a copy of your birth certificate.
  • Submit your Non-refundable Application Fee ($250.00**) to the Delta College Cashier Office.  Submit a copy of the Delta College Cashier Receipt to the Delta College Police Academy.
  • Apply for Financial Aid (if applicable).

    **Applications submitted after December 1, 2009 will be assessed the application fee of $250.00 and an additional late  application fee of $250.00 for a total application fee of $500.00.

 

 Step 3    Completing the Delta College Police Academy Application Process    (Due by December 14, 2009)

**The following items must be submitted to the Delta College Police Academy, University Center MI 48710.**

  • Physician's Statement of Applicant's Medical Condition.  Contact Covenant Occupational Health Services to schedule an appointment to complete this form.  Covenant Occupational Health Services has two locations:  2919 E. Wilder, Bay City MI 48706, (989) 671-5720 or 600 Irving Avenue, Saginaw MI 48602, (989) 583-6130.  This form may be completed from September 25 - December 10, 2009.
  • Complete the Medical History Statement.  Take your completed Medical History Statement to Covenant Occupational Health Services for your appointment.  They may keep this form.  Make sure you make a copy of the completed form to submit to the Delta College Police Academy.
  • LIVESCAN Fingerprint Request form.  Complete the "Applicant Information" on the LIVESCAN Fingerprint Request Form.  The Delta College Department of Public Safety is able to perform this service or contact your local law enforcement agency to see if they are able to perform this service.  This form may be completed from September 25 - December 10, 2009.
  • Submit a copy of your MCOLES Reading and Writing test results.
  • Submit the pink copy of your MCOLES Physical Fitness test results.  This test may be taken between September 20 - December 13, 2009.
  • Submit an Official College Transcript.  Your transcript must be an official transcript; a student copy or graduate copy will not be accepted.
    • If you have not attained a college degree to date, you will also need to submit a letter/memo from your academic advisor stating upon successful completion of the Delta College Police Academy, you will be eligible to receive your degree.
  • Complete and submit the Personal History Statement.
  • Submit your Autobiography.

 

Step 4    Interview    (Call to schedule your appointment by December 10, 2009)

  • Schedule an interview by contacting Dawn Jurik at (989) 686-9176.
  • Interviews will be conducted through December 14, 2009.
  • Interviews will not be scheduled until your application packet is complete.

 

Step 5    Tuition Payment    (Due by December 22, 2009)
