Fowlerville Police Department

Milford Police Department

The Milford Police Department, serving a population of over 17,000 and an area of 36 square miles, is seeking candidates for the position of full-time Police Officer. Portage Police Department
The City of Portage is developing an active hiring list for both full-time and part-time police officer vacancies.
The minimum qualifications for a successful candidate include the following:
- Must Possess an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or equivalent in training and experience. A Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice is preferred.
- Must be MCOLES certified or certifiable.
- Must pass a written assessment test conducted by an outside testing firm, and internal oral board (Panel) interview, comprehensive background investigation, and post-offer physical and psychological examinations.
- Must pass or have passed the MCOLES physical fitness test within 6 months of being hired.
- Must possess/obtain a valid Michigan driver license with excellent record
- No felony convictions, including expunged convictions.
- Must obtain residency within 20 miles of city boundaries within one year.
The City utilizes the independent testing firm of EMPCO Inc. to conduct an initial written test. To participate in the City's application process, go to the EMPCO web site at http://www/empco.net/ and follow instructions to register and schedule participation in a written test session. Tests are conducted in numerous locations and on numerous dates around the State. After scheduling a written test, go to the City of Portage web site at http://www.portagemi.gov and fill out a City of Portage application. To be included in the pool of candidates being developed at this time you must complete and pass an EMPCO entry-level Police Officer written test no later than February 19th, 2012. Empco charges a fee to take the examination but results of the test will be accepted by all participating police departments in Michigan (approx.60 agencies).
The City of Portage offers a starting rate of $20.12/hour (29.72/hour within five years) and an excellent full-time benefit package. A limited benefit package is offered for part-time.

University of Michigan Flint Campus
Police Officer
Responsibilities: Patrol, on foot and in a motor vehicle, all University property; prevent crime on the campus; and provide security services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.. Issue violation notices. Prepare narrative crime reports and non-criminal reports, such as automobile accident, injury reports, and other incident reports. Prepare daily activity log. Use a portable fire extinguisher to extinguish very small fires. Respond to radio calls for service. Provide response to emergency requests and coordinate police, fire, and medical assistance. Assist in emergency procedures, such as locating persons and evacuating buildings. Provide traffic crowd control at special events and University sponsored activities. Observe the conduct of persons to detect dangerous or criminal practices or violations of University regulations. Dissuade persons from continuing unacceptable conduct and practices. Stand guard and/ or patrol on foot or in a motor vehicle to prevent theft, violence, vandalism, or infractions of University rules. Restrain and remove disorderly persons from campus as appropriate.
Conduct preliminary investigations using routine investigative procedures.
Provide escorts of persons. Lock and unlock doors in buildings. Display a positive and professional attitude and demeanor. Represent the University to students, faculty, staff and visitors to the campus. Provide information and general assistance to the University community.
Act as liaison with federal, state, and local police and state and local fire officials.
Identify, apprehend and arrest subjects. Obtain and serve warrants, subpoenas, and other court documents. Detain, search and question suspects as appropriate.
Participate in training sessions and crime prevention programs. Provide jump starts and unlocks of motor vehicles. Perform other related job duties as assigned by Public Safety Department supervisors.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Completion of a State of Michigan accredited police academy training program is necessary. Some knowledge of State and Federal laws and University ordinances and regulations is necessary. Possess a valid Michigan motor vehicle operator or chauffeur's license. Must be a U.S. Citizen, have obtained the minimum age, not less than 18 years of age or as otherwise provided by law. Have the ability to work under pressure, and work in excess of eight hours. Possess good moral character as determined by a favorable comprehensive background investigation.
Just be able to pass the medical, psychological exam and the Frontline testing system.
